What's In A Name?

Choosing a business name is an important step for anyone and I wanted to shed a little light on mine.

I started out in marketing at Bedford College back in 2010, then moved to Shuttleworth College as it was more in line with my interests (plants, animals and history) so marketing courses in Agriculture, Animal Management and Horticulture on an estate with a museum attached was a great fit. I was already heavily into vintage fashion, particularly the 1940s and 50s and being at Shuttleworth lead me to researching and discovering the Landgirls of the WLA.

The Women's Land Army (or WLA) was active during the war years of the 1940s, some were even billeted at Shuttleworth, with many young women enlisted as part of the war effort to keep Britain fed. Bedford had an active group of Landgirls working from 1939-1950 as captured in Stuart Artrobus's book "We wouldn't have missed it for the world." documenting these times in both photos and first hand accounts.

This is very much where my interests; fashion, history, animals and horticulture and my background in marketing intersect so this name 'Landgirl Marketing' felt right and now you know it's roots hopefully you agree.

Happy marketing🌱

Sarah
